POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides for a safe environment at the medical facility in compliance with Medical Center policies and TJC requirements by performing activities relating to the safety and security of patients, employees, visitors, hospital buildings, equipment, and grounds.  Facilitates security activity with other staff; completes appropriate reports and documents; coordinates investigations with law enforcement resources. Provides security related services to staff, patients, and visitors using knowledge and training provided.  Serves as point of contact for security related matters.

Essential Job Functions:

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Security, fire, EMS, or Military experience preferred.

 LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with no restrictions required.
  • Respirator certified within 30 days.
  • I.A.H.S.S. Basic Health Care Security Officer Training Certification required within one year.
  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department specific skills validation and competency training to include basic Security Officer training to include subject certification in crisis intervention, use of force and defensive measures, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Patrols and identifies safety hazards and unsafe conditions that could cause injury to people and/or damage to property.
  2. Provides security services to help protect people and property against injury or loss.
  3. Conducts investigations of safety and security incidents that result in loss or damage to property, potential liability, or violations of state or federal statutes.
  4. Proficient in fire safety procedures and response.
  5. Provides a wide range of safety/security services and assistance to include patient monitoring activity and access management.
  6. Enforces facility policies; patrols the facility and parking areas/grounds to prevent criminal activity.
  7. Maintains security awareness of high-risk and sensitive areas.
  8. Follows established precautions, protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  9. Attends training as required.
  10. Interacts/coordinates security related activity with internal and external partners to enhance facility security.

 SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency training successfully
  • Ability to communicate professionally and make independent decisions
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills
  • No criminal record

 WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Prolonged standing and walking; constant mobility
  • Walks in all weather conditions and on many different surfaces
  • Works a flexible schedule with adjustment to service hours based on facility activity
  • Interacts with patients, physicians, and staff in sometimes stressful situations
